Phakic IOLs (ICL/IPCL)

ICL and IPCL (Phakic IOL) Overview

Implantable collamer lenses (ICL) and implantable phakic contact lenses (IPCL), also known as phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs), are surgical options for correcting refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. These lenses are implanted in the eye, in front of the natural lens, allowing for vision correction while preserving the eye’s natural lens and accommodation.

Introduction

Phakic IOLs are placed in the eye to correct refractive errors and improve vision quality. These lenses are made of biocompatible materials and are designed to enhance visual acuity without altering the natural lens.

How ICL and IPCL Work

ICL and IPCL are made of collamer, a biocompatible material combining collagen and acrylic. The lenses are inserted surgically behind the iris and in front of the natural lens, providing long-term vision correction and improving visual acuity.
